The Providence College Faculty Senate
About the Senate
The Faculty Senate is the representative body for all faculty across the college. Constituted by one elected member from each department as well as by elected at-large faculty, this governing body is responsible for legislating over the academic concerns of the college. Established through the by-laws of the College, and as approved by the Board of Trustees, the Faculty Senate also makes legislation concerning faculty welfare and hiring policies for the college, as well as setting college-wide minimum standards for academic tenure and promotion.
The Faculty Senate currently has three official positions for its executive leadership: the Senate President, Vice President, and Secretary. Each leadership position is elected on a yearly basis by each incoming Senate. The elections for at-large senators are run by the Elections Committee of the Faculty Senate, in accordance with the Constitution and Bylaws of the Senate. Each department is responsible for running the elections of its own Senator. The Senate meets monthly for regular business.
Faculty interested in receiving regular updates on the agendas and legislation being discussed at those meetings can contact the executive leadership, your department representative, or sign up for the Faculty Senate listserv.
General information on the Senate is available here, including meeting dates and times & up-to-date copies of the Senate constitution and Faculty Handbook. Senate Archives and the current Faculty Senate Teams site (with all current legislation, minutes, etc.) are linked as well. All resources can only be accessed by members of the Providence College community.
